Schneider P54x Line Differential Protection Relays
MiCOM P541-P546 series provide high speed current differential unit protection. Designed for all overhead line and cable applications, P54x is ready to connect with longitudinal (end-to-end) communication channels between line terminals. Interface options support direct fiber optic or multiplexed digital connections.
optimum selectivity is achieved by the scheme measuring currents entering and leaving the protected switchboard element. An internal fault causes instantaneous tripping with stability against any out-of-zone fault. Tripping uses a proven feature that compares the differential current with the through current for ease of testing. This type of phase differential element provides optimum faulty phase selection, tripping and indication, and detection of permanent and resistive faults.
A complete range of backup protection is integrated. This increases the reliability of the protection as operational backup elements (such as fe zones and overcurrent) can be activated when a signal channel interruption occurs.
The P543 – P546 devices offer built-in sub-loop distance protection, complementing the powerful main and backup protection package that has proven itself within the family. The full scheme, five-zone distance protection, is adapted from the class-leading MiCOM P443.
The P54x has become the standard in all HV, EHV and UHV line protection applications, replicating where dual redundant main protection is required. Choose any combination of differential, distance, overcurrent and reclosing depending on site requirements.
A single universal relay type instead of two or more separate models reduces spare parts on hand, meaning less training and lower costs.
Breaker control and monitoring application
MiCOM P544 and P546 are suitable for feeders controlled by two circuit breakers, such as complex installations and one-half-one-half-breaker configurations. MiCOM P543 and P545 are suitable for feeders controlled by a single circuit breaker.
